The Free Iranian Athletes campaign draws attention to the systematic repression faced by Iranian athletes who are punished, silenced, imprisoned, or forced into exile for exercising fundamental human rights. Athletes in Iran have been targeted for acts such as peaceful protest, expression of political views, refusal to comply with discriminatory rules, or association with perceived dissent. The campaign seeks to make visible the human consequences of political interference in sport by documenting individual cases and amplifying the voices of affected athletes. Through public awareness initiatives, storytelling, and dialogue, Free Iranian Athletes aims to mobilise international solidarity, challenge impunity, and advocate for the protection of athletes’ rights to freedom, dignity, and life itself.
